Eldorado Springs Resort’s 105th Anniversary
2010
On July 4th, 2010 the Eldorado Springs Resort will be celebrating its 105th year anniversary. Described by many as the "Coney Island of the West," Eldorado Springs Resort was first opened for business on July 4th, 1905. The early visitors to the resort came by train or horseback, with the Colorado and Southern Railroad operating eight trips per day during the summer season.
In 1908 the grand "Eldorado Hotel" opened for guests, with the finest room in the house renting for $2.50 per night. Two of the most famous guests were Dwight and Mamie Eisenhower who honey-mooned in a cabin just east of the hotel. The resort's popularity flourished during the 1910's and 1920's, and the hotel guest list read like a "Who's Who in America." Guests included heavy weight champion Jack Dempsey, actor Douglas Fairbanks, actress Mary Pickford and it is told the W.C. Fields even drank some of the spring water.
The Eldorado Springs Resort has gone through many changes over the past 105 years but the spring fed swimming pool is still open to the public from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend.
Also, the Eldorado Natural Spring Water that flows out at the mouth of the canyon is bottled and distributed throughout the United States.
This summer, come and help us celebrate 105 years of refreshing fun!
